Corona has an impact in the way I take pictures. The partial and complete lockdowns I´ve experienced in Chicago, Berlin, Cologne and Vienna results in a very different appearance of the cities. Here´s an example from last May in Chicago. Everything was quiet, the air was cleaner and the streets were empty. Suddenly certain views became clearer, unobstructed, and in some cases things came into my view for the first time. The most visible change in downtown was the absence of cars. Streets are normally full of them. Cars, trucks and trailers seem to be everywhere, all along roads they stand and park next to curbs. They block views onto buildings, entrances, doors and gates that one hadn´t been aware of. Now the commuters and the commercial trucks and vans were gone. Most downtown residents have their parking space within the building they live in. Walking through the empty streets with almost no vehicles standing around, the vista and perspective is a little strange, but then it becomes so clear, as if all of a sudden the lowest part of the city-line is stripped naked. When there is no traffic one can walk in the middle of the road and see the bottom of the concrete canyon as if one were the last person on Earth.
