MORE DRAMA, BABY

The North Sea climate is known for its unpredictability, weather patterns can change within minutes. It´s common to have a serious thunderstorm with furious winds and bright sunshiny swimming weather within half an hour. It´s helpful for quick improvisational planning if one has a meteorological eye. Pack up the picknick, it´s gonna rain. Get the barbecue into the living room, it´s gonna hail. Hand the kids their lead jackets or they´ll fly away. If you don´t have a clue of what´s comming up, do what the locals do. North-Frisians are ingenious with rapidly changing situations; on the other hand they can also fall into stoicism, acting as if wet clothes are just as comfy as dry clothes.

Here´s a series of pictures I took during a walk. As the cloud moved in, I hurried through the salt marshes to the sea and back again expecting to get drenched. But miraculously I stayed dry.

The cloud is approaching, one can already see that it´s up to no good.

Luckily it already releases a lot of rain over the sea. The next five

pictures show the same cloud bank within ten minutes.

It´s rolling over without rain.

It rains in the distance, the sun has half a minute

before disapperaring again.

A few minutes later it gets doomsday dark...

...then it clears up again.

The next bank of clouds approaches.

The next three pictures don´t belong to the series above, but give

another nice glimpse into the general cloud drama.
