RANDOM VIENNA 2

Since it´s been a while since the last Vienna pics, here´s a series of random impressions from the historic central district. With regard to content there is no connection between the photographs. Truly random.

The contemporary canopy of the Albertina museum is a stark contrast

to the Hotel Sacher on the other side of the square

Wonderfully mysterious packages in front of the Albertina Modern

Promising side entrance of a once great venue

The spectacled cow playing backgammon with a wolf is quite surreal. In medieval times, before there were house numbers, houses had signs depicting the profession or a habit of the house owner. In this case it was a town magistrate by the name of Hieronymus Kuh (=cow), who was known to play boardgames with a passion.

Narrow lanes, everybody´s imagination of historic central Vienna

New slogan on an old landmark - and the everlasting Fiaker carriage

Seven centuries leave more than a trace

on a building - windows and even

                               floorlevels have shifted

Unusual access-balconies don´t seem to be so unusual in this part of town.

An idea that was later picked up by Bauhaus pioneer Walter Gropius.

A cute pictogram making the warning quite charming

No daily fashion in a shop window

Vienna, Albertina, Hotel Sacher, Backgammon cow (in German only)
