Some Cologne Shots

Cologne is one of my favorite cities and I just realized that I´ve featured it only once. Not good, so here´s another post. The pics are quite randomly chosen, but they all concentrate around the center of town, close to, and in the cathedral.

My parents live a twenty minute drive from Cologne, and everytime I go visit them, a day trip is part of the standard program. In my view it´s the only city in Germany that comes close to the liberal come-as-you-are-hang-loose type of atmosphere of Berlin. Moving around town with public transport is not quite as easy, there are way too many cars that congest the streets, but it´s still good to let yourself flow in whatever way and enjoy the people and impressions that meet the eye on the way.

Cologne is and has always been a city of ruins. Underneath present street levels are different layers of the past, there is an archeological zone with permanent ongoing work in center of town. This is the Roman Praetorium which lies underneath a layer of medieval Jewish parts of town.
