Rooms With A View
We have resettled. We are resettled. Once again. We left Berlin and are back in the US, this time we moved to Chicago. It is the city where Susanne had a short term assignment almost four years ago, and where the kids and I went to visit her. A place that impressed us all. I took quite a few photographs (I did a couple of blogposts), expecting not to be back for some time to come, maybe never. And now we live here. What a coincidence. Now I have all the time in the world for in-depth exploring, things I want to blog about, and take all the pictures that go along with it. What a luxury.
My first Chicago post is about the views we have from our apartment. Maybe not so interesting as a subject, but the views are just great and I couldn´t withhold the pictures. They are not consistent because they have been taken with different cameras, in black and white and in color. But hey, they´re worth a peek.
Looking out in a slight south-westerly direction, we see
into the heart of historic downtown Chicago and onto
Chicago River. Some of the most iconic historic buildings
can be seen from left to right: the London House with the
bend in its facade, the slender Mather Tower, the Jewelers
Building, the Wrigley Building (with clock tower) and the
neo-gothic Tribune Tower.
Rising up into soaring heights is the Willis Tower (former
Sears Tower) in the background.
A day and night view to the south across the river.
Above and below the south-east view in slightly different angles.
The NBC Tower in foreground.
Above and below easterly views towards Lake Michigan.
Our only pet in the apartment is this spider without a name
(Boris or Thekla perhaps?) enjoying the view on a rainy day.
(And how the heck did it get up here?)
The window washers on a neighboring building. Everytime they´re around I´m quite tense
and ask myself how they were talked into this. A lost bet? Blackmail? In the meantime
I learned that they got a decent raise earlier this year.
This north view can not be seen from our apartment, I shot the pic from our roof.
