Walking the Cliffs of Rügen

Been there, done it. For spring break we finally managed to take a trip to Rügen, Germanys largest island off the Baltic Coast. The Chalk Cliffs of the Jasmund National Park are a top destination in Germany, and are now another check mark on the bucket list. The cliffs themselves aren´t the only sensation, but the hike along the rugged edge is a highlight in unison with the views. Some parts of the edge are off limits for hikers because of the danger of erosion related break-offs. Sometimes huge slabs of rock with beech trees on top crash onto the beach, causing a significant hazard for hikers and bathers below. This part of the islands coast changes its look on a regular basis due to the constant erosion. Despite of natures exploitations there are still many beautiful viewpoints along the path that remind one of the well known painting The Chalk Cliffs On Rügen by Caspar David Friedrich.
