Tempelhof Exteriors

I think I´ve already mentioned everything noteworthy in the previous two articles (blogpost 1 and blogpost 2) on this mad men version of an airfield. So here are some pictures showing the exterior character of the buildings and the vast airfield itself. Just for clarification: There are much larger airports around. But Tempelhof airport has to be seen in the context of the time when it was built, the 1930s. Considering that this whole structure has been around for almost 80 years, it is quite impressive.

Brutism or Modern Architecture? With Nazi design it is difficult to say. What the 1930s have

left us behind has to be reevaluated every once in a while.

In a Berlin context, these structures definitely belong there and they´re not necessarily ugly.

At least not when the sun is out.

had their HQ. The tall white structure with the spy-balloon on top is a (former?) NSA installation.

If the term "vastness" needs a picture, this is one of them.

Which other major city has this vastness in its middle?

A referendum has prevented a mad development rush, but in the face of dramatic shortness of

social and affordable housing in Berlin, the question of a common sense solution arises.
