RAW Friedrichshain - Impressions

The RAW grounds along Revaler Strasse in Friedrichshain used to be an industrial yard for the technical maintenance of trains and tracks (RAW: Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk - surely one of the nicest German word creations). Nowadays it´s a collection of clubs and cultural knick-knack attracting party-goers and tourists alike. Unfortunately the area around Revaler Strasse/RAW grounds/Warschauer Brücke has become a little unsafe after dark, due to pick-pocket gangs and drug dealers. But with a little common sense, moving around with friends at night is still a possibility. 

I think that the morbid character of the former industrial yard is well worth seeing; and it´s so typical Berlin, so grubby Berlin.

Some of the houses along Revaler Strasse are, or have been, occupied. Every once in a while

there is some ruckus with the Police. Even though there seems to be a left wing autonomous

scene, it´s not as well organized nor networked as the house-occupying

scene of Kreuzberg of the 70s and 80s.
