Copenhagen II
( Part I here )
More of the nordic cool. We are quite impressed by the way of life in a city that´s popular with the young and elderly, the punks and bourgeois, the rich and apparently the not so rich; for Copenhagen is an expensive city, a real shocker when one is used to Berlin standards. But somehow everyone survives. I suppose that everyone also really tries hard to make ends meet, and on the other hand I know that Danes and most probably all Non-Danes living in Denmark, are very modest and content. We Germans, by comparison, brag and complain all the time, especially when we grow fatter and richer. So, what shall it be? Cheap Berlin, or expensive Copenhagen? A mixture of both, the affordability and craziness of Berlin paired with the low-key coolness of Copenhagen. Yes, that would be it.
Christiania is the ongoing autonomous experiment of libertines creating their own free society, tolerated by Danish authorities. The commune doesn´t like photos to be taken of their everyday life by visitors and tourists. I respect that precept, as they don´t want to be viewed like animals in a zoo. This is the only shot I dared take in a less frequented part of the community.
The tower of the Vor Frelsers Kirke (Our Saviour´s Church) is the
coolest churchtower in town. Yes, those are people climbing
all the way to the top of the spire.
Love those (real) bike lanes.
Urban gardening along house walls is very frequent.
One of two cool bridge towers of the Knippelsbro, a flap bridge over the inner harbor water lane.
Why are they all taking a picture of something and I´m not?
View over Copenhagens Christianshavn and the Øresundbridge connecting Denmark and Sweden.
