Focus Canada: Fog in Cape Breton

Fog in Cape Breton is not always dense or dark, nothing of what normally is called a soup. We were only there for a vacation, so I really don´t know better. This kind of fog is very sympathetic, it comes along, stays a short while and vanishes. It´s the kind where one thinks that sometimes something can be seen through it, not very clear, rather anticipating forebodingly. The great wide open of the Canadian landscape is perfect for this light blanket. It looks elegant, isn´t interrupted by obstacles of civilization and is penetrable for sunlight. A fog that is welcome because it´s not obtrusive, it won´t spoil ones day, the sun melts it away. And even though this fog mostly comes from the cold Atlantic, it most definitely is not the horror fog of the flick. The Grand Banks off the coast of Newfoundland, not too far from Cape Breton, where the cold Labrador Current meets the warm Gulf Stream, is supposedly the foggiest place on earth. In Cape Breton, which is part of Nova Scotia, this whole fog matter is very relative, as I found out. People go about their leisure, lying around the beach or grilling food outside. Not to be disturbed by a little cloud accumulation, the sun´s the next guest.
