Rückblende: Meknes - Morocco 1990

Between 1988 and 1992 I travelled a couple of times to the Maghreb countries. My parents and my brother lived in Algeria at the time, and I took the opportunity to visit them as often as I could. Occasionally we planned and made some trips together, criss-crossing the countries by car. The starting point was always the home of my parents in Algiers. One of the longer tours took us to Morocco. Driving west for roughly 340 miles (550 Km) parallel to the coastline got us to the border and over to the moroccan city of Oujda. From there it was another 250 miles (400 Km) in a southwesterly direction to Meknes. I remember Morocco as a very pleasant place to move around. Coming from Algeria one could tell that Moroccans were used to foreign travellers, the touristic infrastructure was definitely miles ahead. This also meant that they knew of disrespectful behaviour by some thoughtless tourists. Sometimes people were reluctant, on one occasion even quite deprecative. Nevertheless the overall experience was great. There are not many pictures from that trip, but here are a few (slides) that are decent enough to show of Meknes, one of the four imperial cities.
