Close to Home: Cherry Blossom in Washington D.C.

The Cherry Blossom Festival is an event much written about and even more photographed than anything. Nevertheless I´ll post a few pictures as it was my first time at the Tidal Basin with a camera at this time of year.

After having wrestled myself through morning rush hour traffic in D.C. in order to get to the Blossom Craze as early as possible, I realized, that I´d left my camera equipment at home. Before starting my days program I always drive the kids to school. On this particular morning it must have been a little hectic departure, in the progress of which, I left my camera bag standing next to my chair at the breakfast table.

Well here I was at the location of my vocation - but no camera. Luckily I had charged my smartphone early that morning and luckily I also had it with me. I took pictures until the battery ran low. Some of them aren´t so bad for a point and shoot camera.

The beauty of it all impressed me somewhat so I decided to return later in the day with the kids. That´s how I got the sunset pictures as well (this time with the real camera).
